Watersports on a budget? | Some cheapest Watersports I found while travelling around Europe.

Updated: Nov 9, 2018

Who's a Watersport fan when you go on holiday ? Definitely I am. I generally love sea and nature, but I also like to stay active while on holidays. Watersports are one of my favourites as you get to stay active and have a lot of fun along the way. Unfortunately what is fun, tend to be quite pricy. I found it very hard to find any information about the prices online while I travelled so that is why I want to share my experience with you and tell you about some cheap options I found. In this post I will write on some of the cheapest and most fun places and attractions I found in Spain, Greece (Rhodes ) and Malta. So if you heading to any of this locations join in please.

Underwater Malta , Comino

Malta

Diving

Not sure if diving classify as a water sport, although I will include it because I think it might be useful for my fellow divers. I paid only €35 for a single dive with training, instructor and equipment provided in Aquatica located in St Paul's Bay in Malta . Apart from that you also get a pretty big discount, if you looking to become a certified diver. It is the cheapest place I found , usually single dive goes around €70/80 per person. Overall experience could be better , but was definitely not too bad for the price. We went down 15m deep and swam for about 45 min. We went to see the underwater statue which was pretty interesting. The training was quick and straight to the point , which I personally liked. The equipment given wasn't the best quality , my partner had some issues with buoyancy and I personally experienced a little headache. But as a newbie I am not sure, if better equipment would make any difference, as ascending and descending requires some real skill. The instructors were pretty helpful, they were helping us during the entire dive. Unfortunately the area we went to wasn't the best, the water was very murky and you couldn't see very well where you were going.

Overall it had its advantages and disadvantages, but I think for the price we cannot expect much more.

Jet Ski

Jet Ski everybody loves it , nobody likes to pay too much for it. I found pretty good and cheap company called Bluewaves Watersports, it is part of the Hotel complex called Ramla Bay Resort in the north of Malta. The owners were really friendly and helpful. You could do 15 min of jet ski for two people for €35 or 30 min for two people for €50. Which is reasonably cheap in comparison with other companies in Malta. They offer a range of various services including affordable boat rental, sunset cruising, canoeing, fishing, go on a boat trip or snorkeling. The location is also great as its very close to some amazing sights, for example Dragonara Cave also known as Coral Lagoon or L'ahrax, Gozo or Comino.

MaltaCanoeing

Great form of recreation and also great way to visit places. So we managed to do it in two locations in Malta. One was with Bluewaves Watersport and I personally think it is the cheapest and best location for it. We managed to canoe all the way to Dragonara Cave mentioned above and it was amazing. The second location wasn't that great unfortunately,it was called Sun & Fun in St. Julians . They charge you €8 per person per hour , which is not bad, but not very cheap either. The owners were nice and polite and didn't charge us even though we returned the canoes a little bit later, then we suppose to. But the location is not that great, the waves are pretty strong, there's a lot of boats and tourists around you and there is not much to see in St Julians unfortunately. With Bluewaves on the other hand, we rented a double canoe for only €20 for 3 hours which is a pretty good price taking in consideration the other company. You also have an option to rent it for one hour only for €6 , but I doubt one hour is enough as it is much to see in there.

Pedal Boat

Something for a nice and relaxing afternoon. We went to Pembroke Water Sports in St. Julians and rented a pedal boat with a slider and the second time without. The price is the same whether you take a slider or not, we didn't decide on it the second time as unfortunately it was quite small and not that fun , it was taking a lot of space and was only slowing us down. They charge you only €10 an hour so it is affordable, the minus is the customer care and support as it doesn't exist. The owners were very impolite and inpatient. But if you have a heart of stone and small budget go ahead :)

Price :€10

Spain (Lloret de mar )

Waterpark

Sometimes we just want to have some fun. Waterworld in Lloret de Mar Spain is a large park with a wide variety of water slides, a wave pool, a kids' lagoon & shady lounge areas. I would definitely recomend this place as it's simply worth the price, it has a big variety of slides for big and small. The price depends on the age and height but for an adult its €35 on the doors, it is not that cheap but you can get a discount while booking through the hotel or with the leaflet. We personally paid €20 per person with a discount for the full day. Which wasn't much at all for such a big waterpark.

Price: €20/€35

Spain (Lloret de mar )

Watersports , private beach and all inclusive boat cruise

So we did something in Spain we didn't expect to turn out good , but it did ! We got a all inclusive deal. I know deals tend to turn out badly usually but not this one. So we went to the main beach in Lloret de Mar called Lloret Beach and we found this deal in one of the pop up shops advertising various water sports, boat cruises etc. So we bought this deal it cost us €40 per person , I know sounds like a bit much we thought the same at first. With the deal you get unlimited access to all the water sports (Banana, Crazy Sofa, Speed Boats, Inflatables and many more ) , half a day on a private beach, boat cruise and unlimited food and drink ( alcoholic and non-alcolic ) . The queue for the water sports was a bit long and I feel like the stay on the beach could be a bit longer. But overall the food was great, they made sure you weren't hungry, you could access the bar at all times and get yourself a drink , there was music playing and various games were lead by animators and we managed to do all water sports there were. In general very good experience and in my opinion you get a lot for a reasonable price.

Rhodes (Greece)

Parasailing

So we managed to get better parasailing deal in Rhodes Greece than in Spain. After checking few places out we found the cheapest for a parasailing flight at Tsambika Beach with decent price of €30 for a single person flight and €50 so €25 euros each for tandem flight (2 people). The experience was great and I recommend to anyone, the owners were friendly and helpful. Overall fantastic experience worth its price.

Price: €25/€30

Malta

Boat Trips

Boat Trips are great but you need to know which Boat Trips are worth its price. The Boat Trip you shouldn't miss while in Malta is cruise to Gozo and Comino and a boat trip through the caves and Azure Window (or what is left of it ) in Dwejra. It's an unforgettable experience and it cost you only €4 . The cruise to Gozo cost you only €20 both ways with the car or €15 without the car. You just need to see this islands while in Malta.

BONUS: You can get yourself an inflatable and get to Comino for FREE !! ( just kidding , tested and wouldn't advise . The wind will kill you and the inflatable wasn't as fast as we thought it would be ... bonus picture at the bottom:D )

Price:€4

Malta & Rhodes

Cliff Jumping

Dangerous for one, impeccable for the other. Cliff Jumping is not for everyone but it is definitely fun. In Malta you can find some natural swimming pools that you can jump into. Yes, you heard me right they 100% natural , one is called St Peters Pool the other one a little bit further down called Kalanka. You can Cliff Jump how much you want free of charge. It is usually full of people during the summer . Another place you might want to consider if you looking for an adrenaline kick is Dragonara Cave, although it is quite deep it might be dangerous. There is other ways to get there, so I would not recommend if you are not a strong swimmer. Another place that you might want to visit is Traganou Cave, its a lovely location with a great beach, plenty of caves to explore and cliffs to jump from . Just remember to be careful while Cliff Jumping as it can be super fun but only when you cautious and you know what you are doing.

Snorkelling

There is many amazing spots for snorkelling in Malta, Gozo or Comino. One of the best spots for snorkelling is Blue Hole in Dwejra (Gozo), Dragonara Cave (Malta) and Blue Lagoon / Crystal Lagoon (Comino). If you have your own snorkelling mask , it is obviously totally FREE, but if you don't you can rent it or buy it for around €5 to €10 . You can swim from Blue Lagoon to Crystal Lagoon and rest on a white sand and snorkel through the cave straight into an open sea. It is just amazing and googles are the must.
