Advantages and disadvantages of travelling on your own and with someone

We all meet the same advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travelling. We tend to ask ourselves multiple questions before making a decision. Should I travel alone or with someone this year ? We tend to be leaning towards traveling with someone as we are afraid of unknown or we simply feel safer and that is completely normal. There is fear and challenges that you have to face while travelling by yourself. However at the end, when you overcome something that held you back for a very long time, you feel incredible. Although not everyone need nor should travel on their own. That is why I listed some advantages and disadvantages for you to consider...

Advantages and disadvantages

1. You feel more comfortable and confident travelling with someone, but on the other hand you are not being challenged in any way and simply you cannot work on your self -development and self-reflexion.

Unfortunately sometimes to gain confidence you need to challenge yourself. Self awareness is important and you can gain that by travelling, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures. Unfortunately as great as the fun can be to travel with friends or with your partner it might be insufficient in terms of your development as an independent individual.

2. You have an opportunity to share your thoughts and experiences with someone, but on the other hand you cannot be really spontaneous , you have to rely on the opinion of others.

Sometimes finding common ground might be a challenge on our trip, multiple disagreements might be a cause of wasted time and dissatisfaction. That is why, it is important to know the person you are taking with you on holidays, are they controlling and indecisive or more easy going and relaxed? At the end its always nice to share your thoughts and opinions with others, even better to experience things with them. Make sure you chose the right people to travel with, if you are not sure about your travel buddy maybe sometimes its better to leave them home at this occasion...

3. You can be more adventurous and still you don't have much problem with your budget as all the expenses are divided 'half-half' , but on the other hand you lack of possibility to become more responsible and independent.

This question always bothers me , am I responsible enough to take care of my budget while travelling? Am I going to be just fine with the expenses? Or will it be a bit too heavy on my pocket? Well... travelling alone might help you discover things about yourself you never knew before as if you are actually good at controlling how much you spend . But if you know for a fact saving is rather one of your weaknesses... half- half sounds reasonable.

4. If you are travelling with your partner it is great ! It helps you refresh your bond and learn new things about each other, but on the other hand your relationship might meet certain challenges that will be hard to fix and eventually the arguments may lead to a complete destruction of a long planned trip.

That's always an issue as the best location and the best holidays might quickly turn into a nightmare. And trust me I heard a lot of stories on woman or man left on their honeymoons etc (pretty dramatic example). But hey, what is the best way to get to know your other half better, than going on holidays together. You can test if you both like to relax and rest or maybe you both prefer more active holidays, do you both like to explore or maybe you prefer to relax and eat well. You may try to avoid travelling together for now, but eventually you will want to try. In my opinion its a great way to get to know your partner from a completely different perspective and it is important to know them and every side of them. Eventually the disagreement will come, doesnt matter if on holidays or at home, you need to learn how to compromise and that is okay. The disagreements do not have to ruin your holiday stay as long as you can communicate and find a common ground.

5. You are usually safer having someone next to you , unfortunately keeping safe at all times as good as it sounds often keeps you away from exploring, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

Hey, don't get me wrong safety is very important ! It is more difficult to keep safe on your own than with someone for sure. Although you can always remember about some safety precautions, for instance not giving too much information to strangers, don't trust everyone you meet straight away, always call someone when you feel in danger, always keep your money and passport in a safe place and many more. But obviously nothing good comes without a risk (as they say ). It is your choice at the end of the day and choose the option that agrees and feels right for you, whether it is travelling on your own or with others. I am sure you will have the same amount of fun either way.

Travel and explore by yourself, with your family, friends or with your partner. At the end of it your safety and comfort is the most important ! #happytravels
