As we all know Rhodes is a sunny island in Mediterranean. It receives approximately up to 2,600 hours of sun each year and more than 300 days of sunshine, although don't get too caught up on a January prices as January is one of the coldest months on the island, so you won't get too much of this sunshine after all. I wouldn't count much on a beautiful weather in December either as December is known as the wettest of the months. On the other hand August is the hottest one in a year, so if you are planning your journey in August don't forget a suncream and some head wear as it can get pretty hot out there.

WHAT TO DO IN RHODES

  • As Rhodes is part of Greece it also took a lot of its culture and food. Greek Salad is obviously a must when you travel to Rhodes and it is quite refreshing in summer heat. But also you have a chance to admire beautiful Lindos. Its a town in Rhodes known for its clifftop acropolis, beautiful white washed buildings, 280 B.C reliefs and The Temple of Athena.

  • Apart from Lindos you will also want to visit the old medieval town of Rhodes. Its great to have a walk in there, say hi to the talking parrot, eat a shark, enjoy fish markets, go shopping, have an ice cream and so on. You can check some of the pictures below.

  • If you are looking for fun. Falirakiis a place to go! Known for its lively pubs and clubs, it is a dream come true for all party lovers. Although it is not the ideal place to go to if you want to experience culture, as it is full of foreigners especially during the summer period. But who knows you might want to pop out for a fun night out while you there, make sure not go crazy on it and get a tattoo with a free drink tho...

  • Also... while on a crazy holidays we cannot forget about most wanted... beaches. Rhodes is quite hilly but it also has plenty of beaches (best of both worlds). If windy and rocky spot is not necessarily something you are looking for do not book the hotel on the west coast of the island. If you rather fancy some golden sand check for options on the east side of the island as its filled with beautiful, breath taking beaches. But if you have a transportation you can save up some money on booking on the west rather than the east and commuting to your favourite beach.

  • Also of course Rhodes is full of nature. Caves and shores, hills and beautiful views ... all of it makes it hard not to fall in love. But apart from that you can also visit a natural miracle ( like I like to call it). Butterfly Valley- amazing natural phenomenon. This 600-acre nature park with walking trails and benches offers a summer home for many butterflies.

WHAT NOT TO DO IN RHODES
  • Do not rent a car in Rhodes : first of all it is REALLY hot , you will boil to death in a car. Then the PRICES will overwhelm you especially deposit when you coming from a foreign country. If you are coming from England you have to also consider that in Rhodes you drive on the right side not on the left side of the road. And also PARKING might be a problem in certain places, especially if you want to visit a lot of famous attractions. On a plus side Rhodes is a tiny island so you can visit everything choosing another way of transportation f.ex bike. Bike is cheaper, cooler and easier to I know there is a lot of concern with driving a bike in Rhodes , as a lot of people complain about drivers and call them dangerous , but really and truly with my experience from Italy or Malta. In Rhodes they are driving quite well! So its worth it !

  • Be polite and express your admiration towards the island while communicating with the locals. They are very polite people but they are also quite proud ( I think like probably anywhere in the world). People in Rhodes speak English pretty well as its a popular tourist destination, so in most cases you can communicate, but learn few words in Greek as this little effort will put a smile on more than one face.

  • Try not to get drunk on the streets of Faliraki and get persuaded to make a cheap tattoo, usually the tattoo artist won't be a professional( I am not talking about the equipment - equipment is sterile and professional) but the tattoo artists tend to be still in a process of learning. So you might turn out to be a guinea pig for them. But hey life is full of surprises, so if you into tattoos and you don't mind getting maybe not a masterpiece but a tattoo full of wonderful memories, its the best souvenir ever.

  • Rhodes is truly a natural paradise, but remember nature can be quite tricky. Sometimes the sea seems to be deep enough and rocks and caves surrounding the shore seem interesting to explore or jump from. First of all know your limits, there is quite a few caves to explore in Rhodes although in order to get to them you have to swim . Do not swim there if you are not a good/ decent swimmer. Also make sure to check the sea before jumping to it. Jumping from a high rock might be fun but also tricky and end up very unfortunate ,if you don't explore the sea and its depth properly beforehand.

Hope this will help planning your next trip to Rhodes ! #happytravels
