Things to do in Lake District

Updated: Nov 7, 2018

The short journey to the Lake District in UK, turned out to be an ultimate adventure. Travelling through country roads and living in a Caravan under a sky with a thousand stars is an experience..

The experience in Lake District is truly unforgettable. High mountains, amazing waterfalls and multiple lakes and forests. Living in a Caravan Park in Wild Rose was awesome. I have come to the realisation that you don't need all this fancy stuff .. 5 star hotels or a massive mansion to be happy and live/travel comfortably. The small caravan gives you truly inexplicable experience. But also if you choose to stay in Wild Rose you get a chance to visit a few national parks not far from the site. If Scotland is another place to visit in your bucket list, you're in luck as its only a few hours drive from Wild Rose which is specially beautiful during autumn and winter months as the northern lights are visible.

Best places to visit in Lake District:

  • You can go along Windermere lake if you fancy 18 km hike . There is also plenty of view points along the way where you can take some fantastic photos !

  • visit High Force - one of the famous Cumbria's waterfalls with the height of 29 m formed where the River Tees crosses the Whin Sill – a hard layer of igneous rock (paid £ 1.50 on the entrance). Outstanding Natural Beauty.

  • Aira Force is an amazing waterfall in my opinion better than High Force, its free to visit the only thing you have to pay for is the parking, but they are obviously ways around it , we personally parked in one of the closest viewpoints free of charge and walked for 5/ 10 min to the parking spot , from the parking spot its around 15/20 min hike , but you will have chance to discover some sights along the way . Make sure to get yourself some hiking shoes!

  • Another place is Rutter Force , its free to visit and its quiet there's not a lot of tourist visiting or knowing about this place . I have discovered it by luck really but it is really worth seeing, especially when you staying at Wild Rose as its only few minutes drive from the park.

  • Ullswater is the second largest lake in the English Lake District, being approximately nine miles long and 0.75 miles wide with a maximum depth of slightly more than 60 metres. Good for divers .

  • Bowfell is a pyramid-shaped mountain lying at the heart of the English Lake District, in the Southern Fells area. It is the sixth-highest mountain in the Lake District and one of the most popular of the Lake District fells for walkers. I loved it ! It was 902 m , really tiring but great experience and great views .

  • Buttermere is a lake in the English Lake District. Around 2km long . Up to 23 m deep. Great depths and cool temperatures and low nutrient levels give Buttermere incredible clarity and make an ideal home for hardy species, reliant on chilly, clear water. It is also a place for all fans of swimming in natural environment.

  • The Honister Slate Mine in Cumbria is the last working slate mine in England. Quarrying for Westmorland green slate has been taken place in the area since 1728. Apart from the mining, it is also a popular tourist attraction in the Lake District National Park. A lot of fun and lovely sights .

  • There is also plenty of beaches located on the sea shore near Lake District that you might want to visit during the summer, for instance White Rocks or Silecroft and many more

...But you can discover plenty of amazing sights in Lake District simply on the road . Plenty of lonely roads and houses on the lakes and view points where you can relax and watch the world go by with your companion .
