How to do New Years Eve Light Paint Photography

Updated: Dec 31, 2018

So today I will quickly cover how to create New Years Eve Light Paint Photography. First of all you will need a camera that works pretty well in a low light situations. Then you will need one battery powered led light, a tripod and a friend to help you out and a good location.

(we could help ourselves with some extra soft light that we forgot of, but after all it depends how you want it) :D

Few days ago we travelled all the way to central London. That is how we celebrated the 25th of December ( Christmas Day-fun, fun, fun) . We decided that London Eye will be a good location due to it's popularity and exceptional looks. I wanted to choose pretty popular travel destination as I thought it might be a place people can relate more to. To start of light photography will require low shutter speed, when you put your shutter low any sort of movement will create a distortion and so called 'ghosting' , so you will need to keep your camera very stable to prevent the image from distortion( preferably on a tripod). Next get yourself a friend willing to hold a light, we used a friend of ours to draw 2019 sign behind us. It was possible by creating a big numbers and turning off and on the light ( turning it on while drawing a number and turning it of while finished and moving to the new place in preparation of drawing another number ) ,marking the spot helps so you know where the frame starts and ends. As I mentioned before you will need a camera:D. Best cameras working in low light and introducing less noise in the image are Nikon cameras( in my opinion). Obviously any camera will do as long as you don't overexpose or underexpose the image, although you have more options to play around with in postproduction if you are using the low-light cameras. Apart from this small and easy set up you will also need your other half to join you for a romantic photo . But hey if you are a single pringle not to worry you can always pose by yourself or with your friends. While posing make sure that you are in a comfortable position, as for 30 sec you will need to remain motionless as any sort of movement will result in a blurred image and you will most likely become invisible. So when you know all of the basics I will add the gear and settings we used to create that image, hope that helps you to create amazing images ! Happy New Year 2019 !!
