Best affordable camera for travel photography and videography

You love traveling and you want to remind yourself of the memories you had ? You might want to share the experience with the world , you might be a travel nomad or you simply want to get more likes on the "gram" . Here is a camera I personally have experience working with while travelling to a few different locations.

Size and portability

While you travel you want to pack as light as possible especially if you want to see a lot of locations in short period of time. A DSLR or a mirrorless might not be heavy until you hold it for the whole day and you recognise the pain. Even if you consider having a strap and putting it around your neck you might end up needing a session with a professional chiropractor. Just kidding, but you get my point. One of the best cameras I have ever used is Lumix G80 or G81/G85 ( named in some other countries f. ex USA). Panasonic G80 has dimensions of just 128.4 x 89.0 x 74.3mm, and weighs only 505g. A capable camera in a small package ( its true what they say ' best things come in small packages). Its an upgrade from its little brother G7. Which you probably have heard of from many YouTubers. The native lenses are tiny and light compare to many other cameras. One of my favourites is Panasonic 25mm f/1.7. It gives you a decent wide view with an insane wide aperture( meaning brighter images and creating magnificent shallow depth of field). The G80 comes with an underrated kit lens 12-60mm perfect for capturing architecture and landscapes as it provides really wide view.

Ease of use

G80 has a flip out touch screen with roughly 300 degrees rotation ability. It also has 2 functional dials, the dial on the left has an ability to quickly change between single and multiple shots, 4K quality images and a time-lapse. The dial on the right has two custom modes which you can customise according to your needs, a quick filter application up to 8 choices and picture mode options up to 25 selections with panorama shots included. Two more wheels natively set up to control the shutter speed and an aperture. The shutter speed wheel has a button that allows you to quickly change the ISO and WB. A button on the left of the viewfinder ( LVF) , two function buttons one which allows you to go over your settings quickly, such as photo style , motion pick, ISO and shutter speed, a button that changes the display settings and one button that gives you a zoomed in crop of the image to help you achieve a better focus. It has an inbuilt flash and easy to read and understand menu. You can use an SD card and connect it to your phone. Also the viewfinder gives you 100% coverage also to mention that the viewfinder is electronic which means your picture will look exactly as what you see. The camera also has peaking and histogram to control your exposure and your focus. Each battery gives you up to 3, 4 of constant use. The batteries are quite small and portable as well and charge very quickly. You can adapt other lenses to this camera so if for example you have some spare canon lenses you in luck. It has image stabilisation system which helps you get smoother videos and sharper images.

Quality of images

This camera is mainly used for videography as it gives you a phenomenal video quality up to 4K 30FPS and full HD at a maximum of 60FPS which means SLOW MOTION. It has 16 MP but dont let that fool you as there might be phones with higher megapixes. Megapixels are not important unless you want to print out big images with high sharpeness. The images this camera produces are extremely sharp, which makes it fantastic for photographing architecture and ladscapes. It includes 9 photo styles ( e.g Cinelike V which gives you high vibrance, Natural which gives you most natural look, Portrait and Scenery).

Resistance to different climates

It has a magnesium alloy body and its resistant to whether so you expect to get a little tank when you buy this camera. I used this camera in the beach when I got splashed with salty sea water and nothing happened to it. However don't get any wrong ideas you cannot dip it in water or drop it on the concrete as it can get damaged. Did I mention its good looking as well?

Price

I bought this camera with kit lens 12-60 for £650 1 year ago , currently as of 18th of November 2018 it is sold for around £450 for the camera body. I recommend buying the camera only rather than with the kit lens as you can invest the money to buy better lenses, unless you get a good deal.
