1. BLACK SAND BEACHES

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach in Iceland can be found on the South Coast of Iceland beside the small finishing village of Vik I Myrdal it is not the only black beach in Iceland however its considered to be one of the most beautiful.

But Iceland it's not the only place you can find black sand beaches for perfect pictures, there are other destinations like Perissa Beach in Greece, Karekare Beach in New Zealand, Black Sand Beach in Hawaii,Playa Negrita in Puerto Rico, El Tunco in El Salvador and so on, so the possibilities and the locations are endless.

Komodo Indonesia

2. PINK OR WHITE SAND BEACHES

Pink or white sand beaches are also a popular instagram locations, loved by many. Unfortunately the pink color is often altered and in reality they are not as pink as you can see them to be on many instagram pictures. Which can be at times disappointing. The pink color of the sand in reality is a hue of thousands of broken shells and coral pieces. Thousands of them are spread on a white sand, which makes the whole experience mesmerising.

You can find the Pink Beach in Komodo National Park in Indonesia, Spiaggia Rosa Budelli , Italy, Balos and Elafonisi , Crete, Greece and many more.

Pink Lake

3. PINK / COLORED LAKES

Lake Bulinskoye in Siberia turns pink in August each year, it turns pink only when its hot during the summer , due to the microorganism called Artemia Salina living in the water. Lake Hillier in Western Australia, became a reoccurring picture on instagram. This lake maintains its colour throughout the year, so you can go ahead and book your ticket any day , although you cannot swim in the lake due to inaccessibility of it, it is believed that although uncomfortable due to high levels of salt it would be perfectly safe to swim in. Last but not least spectacular Red Lake in Laguna Colorada, Bolivia, you can find this Lake in southwest Bolivia , red color comes from sediments and pigmented algae.

Coloured mountains

4. MOUNTAINS

These mountainsides are also incredibly unusual and insta loved . First one is definitely The Wave, you can find it on the border of Arizona and Utah in USA. Be aware though as hiking through the Wave might be dangerous, as it can get extremely hot and lead to the heat related death. Next on my list are colourful mountains located in Zhangye National Geopark in Gansu China. This vibrant colours on the rock formation didn’t happen over night . The vibrant colouring took 24 millions years of sandstones and mineral deposits building up. Purely amazing. If you don’t have enough of colours, you can also visit The Colored Canyon close to the nearest town Nuweiba located in Sinai , Egypt. It is an 800 meters long, picturesque Canyon you can’t miss. I could not forget of Cappadocia in Turkey and its unusually naturally formed Flintstones mountains , apart from great views and photos you can have a look at an incredible hot air ballon show, which instragramers absolutely love.

Desert

5. DESERTS

I could not forget about deserts , you can find a picture worthy desert in almost every part of the world : Namib Desert in Africa , one of the oldest deserts on the planet is full of unusual fauna and flora , Sonoran Desert spread over the portions of Arizona , California and Mexico with endemic flora and plenty of culture, Thar Desert between India and Pakistan known for its large shifting sand dunes and salt lakes that appear during monsoon season. I could not forget about Rub ‘al Khali desert in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest sand deserts in the world. A lot of people in Europe do not know that you can also find a desert in Europe , The Tabernas Desert is located in southeastern Spain. If you look for something a little more unusual Salar de Uyuni in southwest Bolivia was once a pre-historic lake but after it dried up, it left behind the worlds largest salt flats , it looks more like a white desert now. Another two unusual white deserts can be found New Mexico ( Chihuahuan Desert with its stunning display of white sand dunes and rainbow cactus ) and White Desert National Park in Farafra, Egypt displays sand of varying shades of white .
